The role of microRNAs in the Erythropoietic Stress Response. In aim 1, we will Investigate whether candidate erythroid miRNAs are differentially expressed in erythroid progenitors of mouse models of erythropoietic stress. In aim 2, we wukk investigate whether these candidate miRNAs functionally target erythroid apoptotic regulators . In aim 3, we will use deep sequencing of small RNA libraries derived from erythroid progenitors, to obtain the miRNA expression profile during the stress response, and to discover novel miRNAs that are differentially expressed in erythropoietic stress

Quarterly Activities/Project Description We identified a number of microRNAs that are regulating the response of several proteins in the TGF-beta pathway. Data analysis combining our gene expression microarray and microRNA expression data showed that a group of microRNAs may be involed in modulating the response of erythroid progenitors to TGFbeta. We began to examine cell-surface expression of the TGF-beta receptors on erythroid progenitors during stress erythropoiesis in the mouse. The final invoicing for the project will be complete in the next couple weeks.
