POET PROJECT LIBERTY, LLC
POET Project LIBERTY, LLC is one of the nation's first projects dedicated to the development and operation of a commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol biorefinery. POET Project LIBERTY, LLC will be a separate business entity co-located near POET Biorefining-Emmetsburg, an existing corn-based ethanol biorefinery in Emmetsburg, Iowa. The corn-based biorefinery currently has a name-plate capacity of 50 million gallons per year (mgpy) and is one of 27 POET biorefineries. Project LIBERTY will produce an additional 25 mgpy of ethanol from a feedstock of lignocellulosic material, namely corn cobs and high-cut material from the corn plant. Corn farmers from the surrounding area will supply the feedstock to the biorefinery. POET will convert lignin, the primary waste product from the cellulosic process, to alternative energy that will power both the cellulosic and corn-based biorefineries. The project will fund approximately 240 jobs and is expected to bring approximately $14 million in new revenue to area farmers.
