TRANSPORTATION, NEW YORK DEPARTMENT OF
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), in cooperation with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), will undertake a series of capital improvements for the Empire Rail Corridor to improve service between Albany and Niagara Falls and Albany to New York City. A series of projects including mainline track improvements will be undertaken. Improvements to intercity passenger rail services along the 463-mile Empire Corridor, beginning at Penn Station in New York City, (New York County), and proceeding north to Poughkeepsie (Dutchess County), and Rensselaer (Rensselaer County) then turning west to Schnectady (Schnectady County), Utica (Oneida County), Syracuse (Onondaga County), Rochester (Monroe County), Buffalo (Erie County), and terminating in Niagara Falls (Niagara County). The total funding is expected to be approximately $500 million. As project level agreements are executed with the FRA, the specific project will be included as a seperate new project for the purpose of OMB Reporting. This project, the "Empire Corridor South - Grade Crossing Improvements" is the 7th project in the N.Y.State High Speed Intercity Passenger Rail Program. NYSDOT will administer the final design and construction for improvements to thirteen highway rail at-grade crossings located between approximately milepost (MP) 75 and MP 137 on the CSXT Hudson Subdivision: Captain's Three MP75.95, Boat Yard MP81.50, Tivoli Dock MP98.95, River Rd. MP83.70, Cheviot Rd. MP103.70, Broad Street MP114.3, Dock Rd. MP106.10, Ferry Rd. MP121.95, Stuyvesant Rd. MP124.81, Green Street MP134.11, Hamilton Printing MP134.92, Staats Island Rd. MP137.20, and Ice House Rd. MP122.25. Work will include construction of new active devices at one of the private grade crossings on the Hudson Line, Ice House Road, including highway approach work to improve the profile; and the replacement of the existing 8? incandescent lights with higher visibility 12? Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights and warning bells at the remaining twelve crossings. And upgrade to a modern constant warning device at one crossing, Green St.

Jacobs engineering has been contracted for design of 12 of the 13 crossings contained in the grant. Design is working towards pre-adp's. Ferry road crossing has been designed and constructed by CSX.
