The two new officers hired under the grant continue to work a regular patrol shift while veteran officers are assigned to the Community Resource Team (CRT).
During this reporting period Officer Bill Rousseau completed his tour with the CRO team. Officer Rousseau was the last of the original 4 officers assigned to the unit to move on. Officer Joe Philippon was assigned to the Community Resource Team in January while Officer Charles Weaver began his assignment in March. This changeover has gone smoothly and has provided the opportunity for more officers to become exposed to community policing.
The Community Resource Team recently expanded its successful and well received coffee meetings to the Hillview Housing Complex. Residents have enjoyed the opportunity to interact with officers.
Officer Griffin headed the Citizens Police Academy which started in Late January and runs for 10 weeks to include a graduation ceremony. Nearly 20 residents signed up for the academy and have been attending regularly.
Sgt. Ullrich and Officer Griffin taught a community policing module to the new recruit class at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. This class received very high evaluation marks from the recruits. The MCJA staff reported that the community policing class presented by members of the community resource team is one of the most popular academy classes.
Though grant funding was fully spent by the end of February, we continue to operate the CRT and employ the two officers as outlined in the grant award. |

New Hires: 2 - We have hired the two new officers funded under this grant. Because we had grant funding to hire these officers, we were able to take two veteran officers and assign them to our Community Resource Team. They were active for the entire reporting quarter. |
