LABOR AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF
WIA Youth Grants, CFDA 17.259, $3,936,018; WIA Adult Grants, CFDA 17.258, $1,679,456; WIA Dislocated Worker Grants, CFDA 17.260, $3,546,444:The overall purpose of the award is training and reemployment for Adult, Dislocated Worker and Youth. Adults and Dislocated workers who receive training will enter employment upon completion of training. Youth will obtain relevant work experience and job skills. At least 900 youth and 500 Adults and Dislocated Workers will receive services. At least 80 percent of the Adults and Dislocated Workers will enter employment and meet or exceed Alaska's negotiated WIA performance measures.

| Quarterly Activities/Project Description |
ARRA Adult and Dislocated Worker program services provided through local Job Centers experienced year-over-year decrease in new registrations during PY 2010 as funding was being expended and the program concluding. Services were customized, based on individualized assessment, to meet the participant?s needs and goals. There were three levels of service available: "Core" services include outreach, job search and placement assistance, and labor market information; "Intensive" services include more comprehensive assessments, development of individual employment plans and counseling and career planning; and "training" services linked to job opportunities, including both occupational training and training in basic skills. At the end of the 4th quarter PY 2010, 100 percent of all ARRA participants have either completed services and been exited or co-enrolled into the respective the WIA program for additional services. From inception to date, June 30, 2011; the ARRA Program has provided services to at total of 1,174 youth participants; 1,100 of these participants transitioned into unsubsidized employment. Youth received paid work experiences and work readiness opportunities, while employers received an opportunity to engage the emerging workforce in quality training and career preparation. 98 percent of ARRA Funds were expended for PY10. Since the inception of ARRA 84.4 percent of eligible youth attained Work Readiness Skills while 96.5 percent of eligible youth participated in summer employment/ Work Experience opportunities. |
