TRUSTEES OF COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK
The Centers for Innovative Research to Control AIDS (CIRCA) Clinical Trial Unit (CTU) at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health (MSPH) was established to conduct HIV prevention studies in New York City and New Jersey and to focus on underrepresented populations. The CTU supports four Clinical Research Sites (CRS) which participate in HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) and/or Microbicide Trials Network (MTN). These include the MSPH?s Harlem Community site (HPTN), Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center (HPTN and MTN); New York Blood Center (HPTN) and UMDNJ-Newark (HPTN).
The CIRCA CTU received ARRA funds in support of the Unit?s HPTN activities for the period of 9/22/2009-8/31/2010. These funds have allowed all four CRSs to continue conducting HPTN 061 and HPTN 064, and have allowed the CU Administrative Core to retain 3 FTE personnel comprised of investigators, a research nurse, a project officer fulfilling the role of CTU Coordinator, quality assurance managers, and a graduate research assistant, as well as the services of an administrative consultant. Overall, through ARRA funding, the CTU has retained 17.6 FTE and created 22 new full- or part-time positions distributed across the four CRSs and the Administrative Core.
