XEROCOAT, INC.
The Project will develop a new and revolutionary materials coating technology which allows a PV module maker to apply an antireflection coating to the cover glass of their modules in their own facility, and thus gain at least a 3% increase in the light passing through the glass and being converted to electricity. Furthermore, the unique features of this technology allow it to be applied to thin film PV technologies, geometrically complex systems such as concentrating lenses and systems which use plastic components – previously there has been no cost-effective method to deliver high transmission antireflection components for these PV technologies.
The Project has the following objectives:
1. Develop coating technology equipment to apply XeroCoat’s antireflection technology which is suited for commercial scale production levels for solar photovoltaic (PV) modules.
2. Build and demonstrate a pilot line which can verify the low cost and high performance of XeroCoat’s antireflection coating on PV cover glass.
3. Design and specify a full scale production system capable of coating 100 MW of PV modules per year with XeroCoat’s high performance antireflection coating.
At the conclusion of this Project XeroCoat, Inc. will be ready to accept orders for coating systems, and enable the USA solar energy market to take advantage of an in-house and on-demand coating to provide high transmission glass for solar module construction.

Coating Subsystem
Construction on the coating subsystem has proceeded. The coating head unit is complete at our vendor and awaits testing.
Curing Subsystem
Construction of the curing subsystem is well underway. Equipment is partly assembled and nearing readiness for testing.
Chemical Delivery and Control Subsystem
Construction of chemistry delivery and chemical management subsystem has begun.
Measurement and inspection Subsystem
Suitable sensor system has been procured and software is under construction.
Deliverables
This task will deliver a pilot AR coating system and a prototype method for producing an antireflection coating on glass. The pilot AR coating system comprises a coating subsystem, a curing subsystem, a chemical delivery and control subsystem, and a measurement and inspection subsystem. The engineering design of the pilot system subcomonents and integration has started. Success will be determined by the ability of the prototype to produce an anti-reflection coating on glass coupons showing a benefit of >2% added transmittance at a speed of at least 1m/min deposition rate.
