500-SREL will organize a series of short courses on technical topics for SRS environmental professionals /501-SREL is developing an automated stream monitoring system that responds to transient flow conditions in a manner designed to evaluate the impact of episodic precipitation events on the export of contaminants /502-Goal of this study is to develop detailed specifications standard for closure caps for waste burial sites, based on maintaining waste isolation while achieving an overall reduction in maintenance costs, by focusing on appropriate soil properties and use of native plants as vegetation cover to control moisture infiltration and stabilize erosion /503-contaminants pose ecological and human health risk if they become incorporated in biological systems and the food chain. Our goal is to (1) examine historical contaminant data from this system’s biota and (2) gather additional contaminant data needed to determine the intrinsic human health risks and ecological risk to end point receptor species /504-Contaminants persisting in the environment may jeopardize reproductive fitness of long-lived organisms (40-70 years) only after prolonged exposure.A literature review will compile parameters to construct risk assessment models for these species to aid in predicting exposure risks to long-lived organisms /505-To understand the extent organisms in Beaver Dam Creek are at risk from coal combustion waste products, the food web will be determined using stable isotope analysis and analyzed for contaminant loads to determine bioaccumulation and trophic transfer /506-The primary objective is to assist in designing, permitting and conducting a field-scale technology demonstration aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of persulfate to address VOC contaminated groundwater /507-SRS streams are being examining by multiple means to identify historical disturbances.Hydrology is delineated and flow patterns especially relative to waste units and outfalls are being established /508-This project will consist of using a model to assess potential contaminant impacts to ecological receptors and confirming data gaps.Subsequent collections and laboratory analyses will minimize those gaps /509-SREL reviews publications, reports, theses, dissertations and assembled records for receptor species, creates specific site locations, and populates databases for incorporation into the IOU GIS project /510-SREL monitors soil, plant, and water tritium concentrations within the phytoremediation site, models tritium distribution, and reports for regulatory compliance /511-This program seeks to minimize accidents or injuries to ARRA workers from environemtnal risks through exposure to a variety of educational media

500-UGA has begun scheduling sessions with ACP’s guidance on subject matter / 501-Conventional stream monitoring continues on a weekly basis while designing and testing components of automated system / 502-SREL has chosen two waste cap sites of different ages on the SRS for examination of soil properties and vegetative cover, and submitted a draft Sampling and Analysis Plan / 503-We will examine contaminants in lower trophic levels (tadpoles, snails, etc.) to fill data gaps for the risk assessment model / 504-We continue to compile literature and locate historic data sets, have identified priority sampling locations, and initiated sampling / 505-Macroinvertebrate sampling in both upstream and downstream locations of Beaver Dam Creek produced taxa representing multiple trophic levels and functional feeding groups / 506-Weekly groundwater sampling continues with the destruction of contaminant VOCs limited to a region in close proximity to the central well where persulfate was injected / 507-Finalization of fieldwork for the entire Meyers Branch drainage and the study area of Tinker Creek was completed/Field hydrology delineations were finished and a number of disturbances reviewed / 508-We have identified the data gaps and have begun collecting samples for future analyses to fill the gaps / 509-Six new publications were located and one new shape file was generated during the second quarter for WLS Update-Version 20 / 510-The requisite soil samples were collected and analyzed, and model calculations updated to provide the semi-annual tritium use efficiency calculations required by the MWMF operating permit / 511-Development of Alligator Safety Protocol card and Alligator Safety handout, distribution of Snake Safety booklets, and responses to requests for oral presentations on environmental safety have been made/ |
