RECOVERY - AMPI: In-Line Tow Coating for Silicon Carbide (SiC) Fibers Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) will replace metal coated components resulting in a decrease in specific fuel consumption (SFC) for turbine engines. Program generates improved processing technology for more-reliable, lower-cost manufacturing of CMC components. Program improves CMC component manufacturing capability by developing new technology in two areas: a) higher reliability fiber transport methods suitable for production in-line fiber coating processes. Program effort includes fabrication of a fiber transport test bed. b) improved lower-cost, higher-capacity CMC prepreg manufacturing technology.
