The funds requested were for (a) additional supplies to expand high throughput sequencing of RNA populations, (b) to purchase an essential instrument for quantization of images and (c) to support the extension of a postdoctoral appointment for a year to increase the chances for future employment. These were described as deliverables as follows: 1) The deliverable was to design experiments requiring six Solexa runs per year to characterize RNA populations important for understanding oncogenic transformation of cells. 2) The deliverable was the purchase and installation of an imager instrument, shared by all investigators supported by the program project grant. This has been done and the instrument has been installed and is being used. 3) The deliverable was the salary support of a senior postdoctoral investigator for a year to continue important research in the program. The funds allowed this postdoctoral fellow to complete her project and to find an independent position. All purchases and services contributed to an acceleration of science and to an immediate economic stimulus.
