Quarterly Activities/Project Description Outcomes of award 05SE4040 ? Head Start promotes the school readiness of low-income children through the provision of comprehensive health, developmental and family services. As part of the award, all Head Start staff received a cost of living adjustment for a 12 month period. Head Start teachers and assistants were provided with funding to attend early childhood development courses to further their education. A contracted child counselor provided mental health services for Head Start students. The child counselor working with the Head Start Health/Disabilities Coordinator observed students in the classroom who have been identified as having behavioral issues. The counselor worked with the student, parents, and classroom teachers offering strategies for changing the behavioral issues. Classroom renovations were completed to provide Head Start services in the Sellersburg area and to meet safety and licensure guidelines. Playground equipment was purchased for the new Sellersburg Head Start facility. A Learning Plex for parent training in technology, financial education, business and other life skills was established. Rent assistance for the Underwood Head Start Center and the Sellersburg Head Start Center was provided due to the relocation from within the school systems.
