The Navy is supporting the development of hybrid motor-generators for the DDG-51 class of destroyers and for future combatants. AMSC was awarded a contract to: 1) Assess and validate the Navy's interface & performance specifications from vendor perspective to ensure the requirements that are listed as the minimum necessary to develop a successful system and that technology solutions exist within the timeframe desired for production, 2) A conceptual design of a machine to meet the notional performance specification will be completed, 3) A cursory ship impact study will be performed and a list of ancillary equipment will be established, and 4) Determine if there is a benefit for PM-3000 power modules and superconducting transmissions cables shipboard.
