ARRA funds will be used to complete engineering, permitting and construction for three fish passage restoration projects on the Pawcatuck River in Richmond and Charlestown, RI. At the first dam, Lower Shannock Falls Dam, funds will go towards construction of the preferred restoration alternative (dam removal). For the remaining two dams, Upper Shannock (Horseshoe) Falls Dam and Kenyon Mills Dam, funds will go towards design, engineering, permitting and construction of the preferred restoration alternative. ARRA funds will also fund constrution of fish ladders on Omega, Hunts Mills and Turner Reservoir dams on the Ten Mile River in East Providence.

Quarterly Activities/Project Description Q4 2011 Progress Narrative Pawcatuck Projects: Progress has continued on the construction of the fish ladder at Horseshoe Falls Dam. As of the end of the reporting period, the construction work for this project was largely completed. Tasks to be completed at Horseshoe Falls in 2012 include staining of the fishway?s concrete facing and final landscaping work. The weir repairs that were scheduled to be completed at Lower Shannock Falls dam have been rescheduled for the low-flow period of 2012 due to high flows at the site this fall. Designs are largely complete for the construction of a rock ramp at Kenyon Mills, and a wetlands permit application is currently in development and under review by the project team. The application will be submitted in Q1 of 2012. Ten Mile Projects: Construction of the fish ladder Hunts Mills dam is complete with post-construction monitoring to begin in spring of 2012. Construction is in progress on the fish ladder at Turner Reservoir and is expected to be completed in July of 2012. The site at Omega Pond dam is currently being prepped for construction with cofferdam construction expected to begin in February of 2012.
