The City of Newton's overall goal in administering the funds received under the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program is to serve persons at risk of homelessness and homeless people through financial assistance and housing relocation or stabilization services. Households must have a household income at or below 50% of the Area Median Income to be eligible. The service area, under the HPRP, has been defined as people living in Newton, Waltham and Watertown with a priority focus on Newton. Jewish Family & Children?s Service, Inc. acts as the lead agency under the grant, serving as the central point of referral for individuals and families (i.e. program participants) to receive HPRP financial assistance or housing relocation and stabilization services. Jewish Family & Children?s Service, Inc. partners with Newton Community Service Center, Second Step, Metropolitan Mediation Services, Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership and Boston College Legal Assistance Bureau for specific service components. A total of 299 people and 122 households have received homelessness prevention assistance and a total of 78 people and 32 households have received re-housing assistance. |
