Grants - AWARD SUMMARY

SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION

This is an administrative ARRA supplement. The parent grant for this supplement is part of the Collaborative Initative on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (CIFASD). The primary aim of the parent project is to determine whether a neurobehavioral phenotype exists in children with fetal alcohol syndrome, whether the same phenotype exists in children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) who lack facial dysmorphology, and whether the phenotype can be used for differential diagnosis. As part of this project, a standard neurobehavioral protocol is administered to four groups of children at six sites addressing the functional domains of general intellectual function, executive function, working memory, and psychological symptomatology. In addition to children with FASD and non-exposed controls, children with low IQ scores or ADHD will be included as contrast samples. The ARRA funds will be used to supplement two of the study sites, the University of New Mexico and SDSU. Specifically, funds will be used to retain and hire trained individuals capable of recruiting and testing subjects for this project. Retention of these highly trained and dedicated individuals will allow for accelerated data collection.
