Grants - AWARD SUMMARY

INSTITUTE FOR FAMILY HEALTH, THE

The Institute for Family Health's Capital Improvement Program will maintain a high level of care through a series of renovations and alterations at 12 of its health centers in New York City and the Mid-Hudson Valley, and equipment only upgrades at three of its centers. These enhancements will 1) increase access to primary health care services; 2) enhance patients' experience of primary care and increase patient retention; 3) ensure a high level of quality and safety; 4) improve sustainability through long-term cost savings; and 5) create construction-related jobs. Major projects under the CIP will include: creating and improving space for counseling and patient education; improving accessibility for persons with disabilities; upgrading health center signs to increase community awareness of available services; installing new equipment that will improve care, such as digital dental radiography machines; general interior renovations and repairs to enhance patient satisfaction and safety, including replacing deteriorating flooring and fixtures; and, installing a new phone system.

Project Activities Description Ambulatory & Primary Health Care
Quarterly Activities/Project Description CIP funding has allowed the Institute for Family Health to make numerous and in some cases, dramatic improvements, to almost all of our full-time our centers. CIP projects have included: creating and improving space for counseling and patient education at several centers; improving accessibility for persons with disabilities by purchasing at least one electrical exam table for each center; upgrading health center signs to increase community awareness of available services; installing new equipment that will improve care, such as digital dental radiography machines at two of our dental programs, and upgrading computer equipment to ensure efficient use of our electronic health record system; general, but significant, interior renovations and repairs at all centers which have greatly enhanced patient satisfaction and safety, including painting and replacing deteriorating flooring and fixtures; and, finally, installing a new phone system throughout our network of sites which has improved both internal and external communications. Patients and staff have expressed tremendous satisfaction with the renovations. It is difficult to ascertain the number of new patients attributable to CIP funding. However, from 2010 to 2011, the Institute reported an increase of roughly 6,000 new patients on its UDS report, including 2,700 additional uninsured patients. We believe that some of these patients may have visited as a result of the capital improvements to our centers. In addition, during the 3-year project period, CIP funding allowed us to create a total of 22.97 FTE construction-related jobs. All budget modifications requested during the grant period were discussed with our federal 330 project officer and approved by HRSA. Per descriptions in the previous two quarters, this is to confirm that the number of payments to vendors less than $25,000 and total amount of payments to these vendors, are cumulative numbers from the beginning of our CIP program.
Jobs Created 22.97
Description of Jobs Created 0 FTE jobs were created during this quarter. A total of 22.97 FTE construction/renovation related jobs were created during the total projec period.
