Producing Clean Energy and Recycling Greenhouse Gases
APS will design, construct, and operate a fully integrated CO2 Recycling Plant. The CO2 Recycling Plant will significantly contribute to the science relating to production of clean substitute natural gas from coal, recycling of greenhouse gas releases and the development of a new source of domestic transportation fuel.
This R&D project will develop, test, and evaluate at an engineering scale, a fully integrated algae farm. The algae farm will produce biofuel from recycled carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and a two-ton-per-day (tpd) Hydrogasifier, which produces SNG (Substitute Natural Gas) from western coal and hydrogen and oxygen production from electrolysis. The objectives include:
*Large-scale algae farming
*CO2 recycling and capture
*Biomass production
*Conversion of algal lipids to biofuel
*Production of SNG
