Grants - AWARD SUMMARY

CALIFORNIA COALITION AGAINST SEXUAL ASSAULT

Digital Learning and Leadership Project. This funding will accomplish four primary goals: 1. Maintain CALCASA's oversight and leadership infrastructure, the support of which was eliminated by state level budget recessions 2. Make training, educational and professional competency materials available to CALCASA's membership through digital distribution. Digital distribution will allow California Rape Crisis Centers to access training, skill building materials and professional development opportunities without incurring program level expenses for travel (the support of which has largely been eliminated due to state budget reductions). 3. Promote CALCASA's resources, programming and expertise through social networking, digital medial and peer to peer resources which are freely accessible to CALCASA'S membership. These technologies can, in part, promote peer resource sharing, community building and communication that will promote job retention and improvements in practice. 4. Increase CALCASA member access to, and proficiency with digital media tools so that they may have access to training and skill building resources in a cost-efficient manner. Making information and tools free is only part of the challenge of promoting access. In order to ensure that CALCASA member agencies can enjoy the full benefit of produced media, technical assistance will be offered to ensure that member agencies have the skills, knowledge and expertise to access resources.

Project Activities Description Alliances & Advocacy
Quarterly Activities/Project Description CALCASA has used the website as a channel for the distribution of a wide range of materials geared toward enhancing victim advocate skills, capacity building for agencies and other topics typically covered in face-to-face meetings. Specifically, CALCASA featured rape crisis centers from across the state and highlighted activities during the month of April for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Also, CALCASA has featured agencies that are involved in high-profile stories, so the public and other rape crisis centers are aware of what is happening in the state of California. Created and shared policies around the use of tools such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr. Such policies are discussed and distributed to member agencies upon request. Social media policies can be tailored to meet each agency's specific needs and concerns. Outreach to members for on-site meetings to provide technical assistance for traditional media and multimedia integration. Much of the technical assistance has related to questions about how to use the online tools CALCASA is promoting as they relate to the way in which CALCASA advocates policy and news issues. CALCASA have ensured that each member and stakeholder has access to CALCASA's Media Guide and Social Media Policy Guide. CALCASA has increased the reach and impact of materials flowing through the agency. Publications, resources and research from experts is delivered through a variety of channels, ensuring that not only are more people accessing it but also that they are seeing it in different types of media (blog posts, news articles, videos, audio interviews, podcasts). This has allowed members to communicate with CALCASA staff in various formats, and thus, membership is also able to reach a larger audience.
