More specifically, the City is engaged in the COPS Hiring Recovery Program under this award. The COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP) provides funding directly to law enforcement agencies to hire and/or rehire career law enforecement officers in an effort to create and preserve jobs, and to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.

Quarterly Activities/Project Description In accordance with the purpose of the COPS Hiring Recovery Program which includes hiring /retaining police officers for community policing activities the City has hired five police officers for the stated purpose of community policing activities within the City with an emphasis on crime prevention. Due to retirements in the department, the five officers previously being retained due to layoffs under this grant were able to fill the vacant positions and the City was able to hire five additional officers.
