DEKALB, COUNTY OF
DeKalb County Government was awarded an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant for the sum $6,511,600 through the Department of Energy as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The grant will be used to accomplish various energy initiatives in county buildings including, but not limited to, installation of energy efficient roofs, replacement of an old, inefficient chiller with a new, energy efficient chiller, installation of new building control systems to help monitor and manage energy usage and installation of sensors that will automatically shut-off lights when a room is unoccupied. A portion of the grant will be used to perform a county-wide and comprehensive energy and sustainability study that will measure current performance, establish improvement goals and offer options for achieving these goals. These projects will lead to the creation and retention of jobs across our community. Upon completion of the EECBG program, it is envisioned that the County will realize energy savings resulting from these improvements as well as effectively enhancing building occupants? comfort, reduce cooling and heating costs, and will help to mitigate Urban Heat Island effect thus deriving benefit to surrounding micro-climates.
