NEVADA HEALTH CENTERS, INC.
Per the AP Economic Stress Index monthly report released on December 13, 2010, even the most troubled states showed month-to-month improvements in October. Nevada again had by far the worst state economy, with a Stress score of 21.68. Nye County and Lyon County in Nevada fell off the chart of the 20 most stressed counties in the nation in October 2010. Clark County, which includes Las Vegas, is still number six on that chart. Nevada Health Centers, Inc. operates four community health centers, an OB/GYN Center, WIC Clinics and one healthcare for the homeless center in Clark County. The changes in the economy have brought more uninsured patients to NVHC, particularly in Clark County. When jobs are lost, most people also have to give up their health insurance, as most cannot afford the health plans without employment. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, released a report on December 17, 2010 that indicates Nevada still has the highest unemployment rate in the nation at 14.3, with some counties having even higher rates. The increase in the number of uninsured patients NVHC is caring for has put additional financial stress on our organization. The IDS funding has proven to be significant in hiring needed positions due to the increased demand for services. Although IDS funding was fully drawn during the quarter, NVHC has continued employment of 8.48 FTEs as outlined in the IDS grant application.
