During this quarter: Response of Hadley circulation to greenhouse gas forcing in future climate; Decadal variability of North Atlantic meridional overturning circulation in future climate; Use of interactive ensembles forced by observed weather noise to diagnose and understand the mechanisms of observed decadal predictability in the North Atlantic; A new technique for identifying predictable components on long time scales in century long climate simulations; identification of weather regimes in observations and model simulated climates; predictability of Atlantic and Indian Ocean climate variability; seamless prediction of weather and climate; understanding the role of deep convection in modulating the period and amplitude of ENSO, and the impact of land use change on climate in and around Amazon basin. Research on understanding the mechanisms of intraseasonal, seasonal, and interannual monsoon variations, especially the occurence of major monsoon droughts and floods, is continuing.
During this quarter: Causes of low frequency climate variability in coupled GCMs; statistical optimization techniques to determine the patterns that are most/least consistent between models and observations; growth of initial errors in the current climate and the future climate; evaluation of climate and cloud feedback among climate models; the effect of global warming associated with increases in greenhouse gases on the changes in the distribution of global precipitation; the indirect aerosol effects on cloud microphysical processes and radiative properties of Arctic clouds; the multidecadal variability of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) in a suite of climate models; absorption of extra heat by oceans associated with anthropogenic global warming; sensitivity of the Hadley circulation and the m |
