TRANSPORTATION, OHIO DEPARTMENT OF
This grant invests in public transit by purchasing 104 buses, 2 vehicle security systems, several bus passenger shelters, and shop equipment for 18 rural transit systems; renovate 6 administrative/maintenance facilities and provide funding to 11 rural transit systems to purchase scheduling/dispatching software. The 34 sub-recipients will also receive ARRA funds for preventive maintenance that will be invested in the public transit vehicles. This investment in public transit will preserve and create jobs throughout Ohio by providing safe, accessible, and reliable transportation to essential services, training, and jobs. This public transit investment also improves the statewide transit fleet condition. This improvement will reduce the vehicle maintenance cost while improving air quality. The cost savings generated by the ARRA funding investment will be reinvested in public transit service enabling rural transit systems to continue operating.

The jobs created based upon the projects in this grant will be in the vehicle manufacturing industry, vehicle maintenance industry, and other industries associated with the capital items purchased by subreceipients (i.e. new technology for scheduling/dispatching, contractors for renovation projects, etc.) All preventive maintenance contracts have been awarded and funds are being disbursed. A few small equipment purchases are also underway. The acquisition of shop equipment and other associated capital items will impact job creation in the manufacturing sector, as there are 237 items to be purchased at a cost of $2,127,525 that otherwise would not have been purchased. Without these funds, these vehicle purchases would have taken several years to occur, and the immediate impact of these vehicle purchases will be to restore employment in the automotive industry.
During the quarter between January 1, 2013 and March 31, 2012, captial procurments were completing and capitalized maintenance activities occurred.

The jobs created based upon the projects in this grant will be in the vehicle manufacturing industry, vehicle maintenance industry, and other industries associated with the capital items purchased by sub recipients (i.e. new technology for scheduling/dispatching, contractors for renovation projects, etc.). Approximately 55% of the funds associated with this grant will be invested in public transit vehicles and 23% will be invested in the preventive maintenance. This equates to over 78% of this grant ($7,773,509) being invested in jobs to build or maintain public transit vehicles. The immediate impact of this investment in public transit is the cost savings realized by the ARRA funds invested in preventive maintenance. This investment provides the funding opportunity for the rural transit system to re-install service, stop future cuts or increases, or provide additional transportation resources (i.e. making connections to jobs during odd shifts while also providing the opportunity for investments in the vehicle maintenance) . The acquisition of shop equipment and other associated capital items will impact job creation in the manufacturing sector, as there are 237 items to be purchased at a cost of $2,127,525 that otherwise would not have been purchased. |
