NORTHERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY RESEARCH FOUNDATION, INC.
The purpose of this award is to develop and assemble molecular building blocks for supramolecular structures that exhibit charge transfer when irradiated with light. The PI will design and synthesize linkers to assemble fullerenes, conjugated plymers, and metal centers into various types of structures. The PI will use spectroscopic methods to examine the photo physical properties of these assemblies. The proposed systems should provide fundamental insights into charge transfer processes in new structural motifs, which, in turn, could impact technologies such as solar cells and molecular electronics.

Our award was for our research group to continue the development of supramolecular organometallic systems with the purpose of creating new molecular devices for light harvesting and/or electron transport. Work has continued on our several molecular precursor synthesis, and more recently polymeric systems. We have also recorded baseline data with our in house constructued Stark apparatus. These results were presented in four posters and two oral presentations at the fall Kentucky Academy of Science annual meeting. We are currently preparing three manuscripts of some of our research for eventual publication next year. |
