During this reporting period, the Providence Police continued working on its recruitment schedule and task plan to hire the 13 officers. The activities consist of: conceptualizing an on-line application, testing the online application module, consulting with an advisory committee, interviewing testing companies, recruiting an academny staff, and developing a comprehensive media campaign. The Department was also coordinating with the Mayor's Office on a public announcement kickoff event.

Under the original grant proposal, the Providence Police Department applied for funding to hire 13 full-time police officers. The officers were to be assigned to the Patrol Division where they would work in one of the city's nine police districts.
Due to the financial difficulties confronting Providence, the Department requested a modification to rehire 13 officers scheduled to be laid off. This modification was approved by the COPS Office and accepted by the City of Providence in September 2011.
