SANTA ROSA, CITY OF
The City of Santa Rosa Wastewater Treatment Facility Improvement Project requires significant improvements to meet the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems(NPDES) requirements; and meet anticipated limits for land application of solids. An evaluation of the existing Wastewater Treatment Facility, a Preliminary Engineering Workshop, a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER), and an Environmental Information Document (EID) have been completed.
The project consists of an upgrade of the biological process to nitrification/denitrification using the Medium Rate Actived Sludge (MRAS) Process, which is a form of conventional biological nutriet removal activated sludge process. The improvements include the design and construction of aeration basins, splitter boxes, secondary clarifiers, aeerobic digesters, UV disinfection, a blower/pump building, and concrete sludge drying beds. The proposed improvements will meet discharge requirements; enable the reuse of reclaimed wastewater for irrigation, saving the City precious groundwater, as well as increase operator efficiency, provide for future expansion, and meet anticipated limits for land application of solids. The existing WWTF was constructed in 1990 with a design flow of 445,000 gallons perday (gpd). The WWTF currently receives an average daily flow of approximately 370,000 gpd: however, the WWTF is consistently unable to meet the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements for Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS).
