HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, VIRGINIA DEPT OF
The Marion Downtown Slums and Blight Project (09-02R) involves acquiring a vacant 100-year old former high school building, demolition and safety clean-up necessary to deterimine blight severity, facade improvements to the school and two other structures and street improvements.
The Frederick County NW Works Building Renovation Project involves acquiring and renovating an existing commercial/industrial building that will be used to relocate the current sheltered workshop. An additional 79 jobs - 72 for disabled persons will be created.
The Town of Fries Fire Department Relocation Project involves relocating the current fire department so the downtown can be redeveloped. The property will be transferd by the Fries Volunteer Fire Department to the Blue Ridge Crossroads Economic Development Authority for redevelopment.
The Franklin City Business Incubator Build-out Project will provide office space for 40 full time jobs through the creation of additional office space in the existing business incubator. Over 70 individuals will benefit from the retention of 40 permanent full time positions and the creation of 23 new permanent positions of which 51% will benefit LMI individuals.
The Mecklenburg Meadow View Terrace Expansion Project involves the expansion of 30 additional nursing beds to it existing facilities creating 25 new full-time permanent jobs.
The Norhtampton County Telecommunications Infrasture Project (09-07R) involves constructing 72,600 LF of aerial and buried fiber that will serve the Towns of Nassawadox, Exmore, Willis Wharf and Belle Haven by connecting to major health care facilities. This investment will create tempory construction jobs and 20 new permanent jobs- 51% of which for LMI persons.

There were no FTEs created during this final quarter. All six projects are now complete. The Franklin City project (09-05R) and Frederick County project (09-03R) are still tracting benefits to comply with meeting the national objective compliance. The total FTEs for the life of the grant is now 115.58 FTEs. The Northampton project (09-07) did not spend $950.83 in CDBG-R funds. Franklin City (09-05R) did not spend $8,606.92 in CDBG-R funds. The State of Virginia had allocated $156,659 in administrative funds and expended $143,852.82 which left $12,806.18 of unexpended funds. Therefore the State will have $22,363.93 in CDBG-R funds recaptured. |
