PENINSULA CORRIDOR JOINT POWERS BOARD
Invest in public transportation by maintaining the Caltrain track and related infrastructure in a state of good repair, replacement of the Caltrain Operations Control Center for dispatching trains, the installation of additional bicycle racks on trains, and operating assistance for the commuter rail service. Originally, the grant included a project to renovate railroad bridges in San Mateo, California, however, as previously reported, the funds in this grant for this project were moved to other projects through a budget revision and grant amendment. The bridges project will be completed with other funding.

The Bike Racks on Trains, Track and Infrastructure Improvements, and operating assistance projects was previously reported as closed. During the quarter, System Acceptance for the Operations Control Center was granted on 11/12/12. As a result of the investments in this grant, Caltrain is able to offer public transportation service that is safer, more reliable, and more environmentally friendly, while allowing the retention of jobs that might otherwise be lost if such work was not available. |

The transit agencys Recovery Act grant is being used to perform state-of-good-repair track and infrastructure rehabilitation, the design and replacement of a state of the art Operations Control Center in order to dispatch trains more safely and efficiently, the installation of additional bike racks on train cars to make the commuter service more bicycle friendly, and to subsidize the commuter rail system?s operations. As such, the projects funded under this grant are investing in transportation, environmental protection, and other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits. These investments will also contribute to preserving and maintaining jobs and promoting economic recovery in the construction industry. |
