CONSERVATION, MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF
Conducting/promoting wood to energy (biomass) activities to achieve healthy sustainable forests by:
1. Providing technology to help rural public schools use woody biomass from public and private forest lands to head and/or cool their facilities. This technology will result in reducing their dependence on fossil fuels.
2. Creation or retention of jobs through the development of wood-to-energy facilities via construction, operating and maintenance of the heating and/or cooling systems, and harvesting wood biomass.
3. Showing that when properly conducted, woody biomass harvesting will result in reduced fuel loading and healthy natural forest communities.

Each individual school completed their project this quarter. The work that was completed included installing the boilers, electrical installation, the installation of heat exhangers, and test firing and tuning each boiler. Landscaping and driveways were also completed this quarter. The project coordinator made multiple visits to each school to audit the progress of each project's completion. |

The jobs created were for general contractors, architects and engineers, and project coordinator to complete each school project. The work completed includes installing electrostatic precipitators, electrical installation, heat exchangers and completion of boiler construction, which included tuning and test firing the boilers. The architects and engineers also spent a large portion of time overseeing the progress of each project. One job was created due to the full time position of the project coordinator that has worked through an agreement with Top of the Ozarks, RC&D to audit all work and expenditures on each project. |
