UNIVERSITY OF MAINE SYSTEM
This application for an Administrative Supplement requests funds to amplify and accelerate the research outlined in the parent proposal. The budget of the original grant award was reduced and so the depth of the research was altered proportionally. We propose here to carry out the work that was outlined in our unmodified proposal, as well as to alter procedures to include current techniques and materials unavailable at the time the original proposal was prepared. To realize this goal we have requested the Research Associate and Technician positions previously eliminated from the budget of the parent proposal. Funds are also requested for supplies required to support the research activities of these new personnel, since they will be involved in the application of advanced analytical procedures that will be substituted for less reliable conventional methods. We also seek to acquire of a key piece of equipment, an imaging fluorescence microscope system, and these new personnel will be necessary to carry out experiments using this instrument. In order to maintain the current facilities and to support this and other NIH-funded projects, we will need another Technician position and a Laboratory Manager for the University of Maine Zebrafish Facility.
The requested supplement will ultimately enhance the tempo of research discovery and result in both job creation and retention. There will be no significant changes made to the overall scope of the parent grant as a result of this supplement.
