This project investigates best practices for the repatriation of Native American musical resources in archives. We proposed 5 trips to Alaska to conduct community based fieldwork and support of community music projects in Barrow and other I±upiaq communities on Alaska's North Slope. The project is more than 75% complete. PI Fox and research assistant Amsterdam attended the Kivgiq dance festival in Barrow in February 2013 to document the uptake of repatriated songs into community repertoire. Research assistants Amsterdam and Arkenberg are currently transcribing field interviews and developing digital materials for final research product publication. No other project expenses were incurred. |
