PUERTO RICO, COMMONWEALTH OF
The State Broadband Data and Development grant is a competitive, merit-based matching grant program that implements the joint purposes of the Recovery Act and the Broadband Data Improvement Act (BDIA) through the award of grants. This Program is designed to fund projects that gather comprehensive and accurate state-level broadband mapping data, develop state-level broadband maps, aid in the development and maintenance of a national broadband map, and fund statewide initiatives for broadband planning.

New broadband maps were created and uploaded to the Connect Puerto Rico website from data received and submitted to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) during the latest data update cycle.
Delivered formal request e-mails to all viable broadband providers requesting new or updated data for the forthcoming data submission.
Program staff participated via teleconference in the October 1 and October 22 meetings of the Puerto Rico Broadband Taskforce (PRBT) and attended the December 3 meeting of the PRBT in San Juan.
Attended INTECO Access, Iniciativa Tecnologica Centro-Orientals inaugural event launching the new network.
Three monthly e-newsletters were created and sent to all subscribers and stakeholders providing updates on the progress to expand broadband access, adoption, and use in Puerto Rico.
Outreach to Community Anchor Institutions (CAI) continued in order to gain information on their broadband types and speeds with an emphasis on private school facilities and processed CAI data related to Comunidades Especiales and Centros Tecnológicos computing centers.
Created policy briefs and discussion points for Puerto Rico summarizing and discussing the results of the recently held Mobility Fund Phase I reverse auction and the map challenge process.
Discussed a timeline and input needed for the 2013 Puerto Rico Business Broadband Assessment.
Staff prepared a project plan summary and presentation for use by the Puerto Rico Office of the Chief Information Officer in transitioning the program within the Puerto Rico government.
