Contracts - AWARD SUMMARY

LOS ALAMOS NATIONAL SECURITY, LLC

This award accelerates work that has already been identified in the sites? baselines and disposition of a specific inventory of transuranic (TRU) waste. LANL is to provide technical support services to the DOE Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) for this work. All technical support provided is an expansion/acceleration of work currently being performed by LANL in its WIPP baseline program, as defined in Work Authorization RA-09-006. No new work or new starts are included in LANL?s Recovery Act scope or responsibilities. Specific Recovery Act scope includes the following: ? Expanded effort in support of National Transportation Certification/Authorization and complex-wide loading (mobile and fixed facility) for contact-handled (CH) and remote-handled (RH) TRU waste. This effort will allow for expanded and accelerated Central Characterization Project (CCP) support in waste loading, both in number of sites being simultaneously supported and in quantity of shipments from each site. Nine new FTEs are involved in this effort and are fully funded with Recovery Act resources. ? Expanded effort in TRU waste certification at sites across the complex via specific augmentation of Acceptable Knowledge (AK) compilation, maintenance, and audits. This effort supports CCP activities under the Recovery Act to increase the number of waste streams and waste volumes at sites which are available to certify and ship to WIPP. One new FTE funded under the Recovery Act will be dedicated to this expanded AK effort. ? Expanded effort in support of expansion and maintenance of the critical TRU Waste Comprehensive Inventory. This ARRA work will focus on the strategic utilization of the inventory to support prioritization and scheduling of waste-related activities across the complex. Two new FTEs will be funded under the Recovery Act to implement this expansion of activity in strategic inventory and database management for increased waste certification and shipment from all defense TRU sites. ? Expanded effort in generator site interface activities at sites with expanded TRU waste work-off priorities being implemented under the Recovery Act. These efforts will focus on development of waste work-off plans and difficult/challenging waste analyses and disposition pathways. LANL will fund four new FTEs exclusively on this complex-wide expansion/acceleration of TRU waste certification and transportation
