COLUMBUS, COUNTY OF
This grant consists of four projects, as follows: Automated Traffic Management System, Weatherization, Air Quality Campaign, and Traffic Signals/Street Lighting. The ATMS project provides connectivity, command & control to some 50 traffic signals along Macon/Wynnton Road (GA Spur 22). The benefits include automation, centralized control of traffic signals and information, synchronization of traffic with resulting reduction in vehicle emissions and increase in fuel economy, real-time traffic and monitoring and signal control, and connection to Intelligent Transportation Devices, as well as jobs creation or retention. The Weatherization program consists of contracting with a Neighborworks Columbus to provide energy audits and weatherization services for low-income households, including replacing old, ineffient HVAC systems and water heaters as needed. The benefits include energy savings and jobs creation and/or retention. The Air Quality Campaign program consists of working with the media and local organizations to promote air pollution reduction strategies, including surveys and pollution prevention audits for small businesses. The benefits will be improved air quality and development of strategies to maintain federal air quality standards. The Traffic Signals/Street Lighting program consists of replacing incandescent bulbs in 941 traffic pedestrian (PED) signal heads with L.E.D. bulbs. The benefits include a proposed savings of 56,460 watts of electricity, improved visability of signals (five times brighter), lower maintenance costs due to longer life (an estimated reduction of 500 lamp replacements per year, saving 20 minutes of work per replacement).

| Quarterly Activities/Project Description |
We had no activity during the current quarter. This is because the grant was originally scheduled to end on December 22, 2012 and we were waiting for the approval of an extension request, which was not granted until March 22, 2013. Now that a four-month extension has been granted, we expect to expend the remaining $72,246 of this grant within the next month, which will be reported on the next quarterly report. Currently this grant is 96.08% complete. |
