| Quarterly Activities/Project Description |
Three MAICSS V2 candidate computers have been configured and tested, using the latest Intel® QM57 Embedded Chipset, Intel® Q67 Express Chipset, and Intel® H67 Express Chipset respectively. Integrated with a Quad Base CameraLink framegrabber card and Firewire interfaces to support a sensor payload with a) a NASA 1K by 1K pixel QWIP LWIR camera, b) one FLD's 60.5MP Firewire BuckEye EO camera, and c) one to three 29MP FLD BuckEye HS (HS= High Speed) cameras. We tested two more configurations than what we originally planned in the past Quart because of a motherboard bug that had been found associated with the QM57 chipset computer.
1) Lab, airborne testing and data collection of emerging 29-megapixel CCD camera integrated with color Bayer filter and a non-compromised electronic global shutter using prototype MAICSS V2 computers.
2) Testing of Matrox Radient eCL framegrabber card. It has a Quad CameraLink interface capability. That means four Base CameraLink cameras, like 4 29MP cameras, or one QWIP and three 29MP cameras, can be integrated with a Radient eCL equipped MAICSS V2 computer. The Radient eCL features an on-board FPGA device for real-time image processing. We have tested to use the onboard FPGA of Matrox Radient eCL framegrabber card to offload CPU to perform Bayer filter color processing.
3) Lab and airborne tests of: frame synchronized QWIP LWIR and BuckEye HS image captures; simultaneous free runs of the QWIP LWIR camera and a Firewire based 60.5 MP BuckEye EO using MAICSS V2 computers.
4) Considering data throughput of MAICSS V2 is an order of magnitude higher to MAICSS V1, the V2 configuration is much more advanced. RAID 0 configured SSD array is used. 8GB memory is a minimal but 32GB is really beneficial. 64-bit memory addressing is used for MAICSS V2 software. 64-bit multi-core Core i7 with Intel Hyper-Threading technology can be exploited. |
