WOMENS COALITION OF ST CROIX


Women's Coalition Transitional Housing Program. Over two years, the Women's Coalition of St. Croix (WCSC) will provide transitional housing services through the leasing of scattered site housing units to approximately twenty (20) women and their children who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and/or sexual assault. Additionally, the program will provide: ? Utility Assistance, ensuring access to electricity and running water. ? An alarm system and phone line in each unit to ensure the safety of each participant. ? Comprehensive case management services, including development of client-centered case management, housing, and safety plans. ? Advocacy and referrals to vital community resources, such as legal services, financial assistance programs, job-readiness programs, and permanent housing. ? Life-skills, parenting, financial management, and leadership development workshops. ? Follow-up supportive services to women exiting the program. As a result of the program, participants will increase their life-skills, financial management, and parenting skills. Additionally, 50% of the participants will increase their leadership capacity, and 80% of participants will successfully transition into permanent and sustainable housing. Finally, the program will promote job development and economic recovery through the creation of two new jobs and several consulting opportunities.

Quarterly Activities/Project Description Over two years, the Women's Coalition will provide transitional housing assistance to approximately 20 women and their children who are victims of domestic violence, stalking, dating violence, and/or sexual assault. Additionally the program will provide case management services, advocacy, life skills, parenting, financial management and leadership development. Eighteen victims / survivors have received transitional housing assistance through this ARRA grant. Of the eighteen participants 16 are currently in permanent housing, and 2 is receiving follow up services. During this period. Housing advocacy and rental application assistance was also provided. Activities for this quarter include Stress Management, Team Building (Bowling), Turining a hobby into a small business.

Description of Jobs Created Program Director: This position is responsible for providing overall oversight to the Transitional Housing program. The Program Director assists with the development of program protocols, ensures that all project goals and objectives are being met, and prepares and submits all necessary progress reports. The Program Director is also responsible for securing housing units and executing lease agreements with landlords. Housing Case Manager: This position is responsible for providing comprehensive case management services to clients enrolled in the transitional housing program. The Housing Case Manager will enroll clients into the program and establish client-centered case management, housing, and safety plans with each program participant. These two positions are critical in providing services to the first Transitional Housing program in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The anticipated result is that twenty (20) women over two years will obtain decent and affordable housing and overall improved well-being and self-sufficiency. In addition to the newely created positions, the Recovery Act Funds help to support the Co-Director and Fiscal Officer's salaries, both of which help to support the efficiency and effectiveness of the projected program goals.
