OSRAM SYLVANIA INC.
We propose a fluorescent replacement solution consisting of a metal housing enclosing the following: intelligent control electronics, three linear form factor LED modules using remote phosphor technology and power supply. The intelligent controls sense occupancy and ambient lighting conditions, then use switching and dimming not possible without degrading fluorescent lamp performance to gain additional energy savings. The LED module uses commercial blue LEDs and a large area remote phosphor film that can yield a higher efficacy than packaged white LEDs. The phosphor provides diffusion to yield uniform intensity light over the emissive surface to resemble the fluorescent appearance. Equally important for widespread adoption, inter-device color uniformity can be improved using the remote phosphor solution over the multiple color bins that would be required to supply white LED packages in volumes of millions or more.
Our proposed solution matches currently available fluorescent fixture lumen output and color while increasing efficacy to a projected 92 LPW and reducing total cost of ownership by up to 62%. We propose to match DOE?s Multi-Year Program Plan luminaire efficiency goals for year 2015 by the 2012 project end date and drive down costs significantly below the dollars per kilolumen cost target for 2012. We believe exceeding roadmap goals for efficiency and cost are key to market adoption and the subsequent energy savings.
