An equipment grant for the purchase of state-of-the-art electron microscopy sample preparation equipment and the purchase of an electron microscope. The emphasis is on biological sample preparation and three dimensional imaging through tilt series with the electron microscope. The equipment will be used by a group of 5 basic science investigators at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and be made available to other investigators and students in central Arkansas. It will be the only such biologial sample electron microscopy facility in Arkansas.

Quarterly Activities/Project Description The Leica sample preparation equipment is beintechnical g used. Consruction of the microscope facility was completed in early November 2010. The electron microscope (EM ) was delivered in mid- November 2010. The installation process was completed just before Christmas. The equipment will be available for training in operations the first week in January 2011. Applications training will begin the first week in February 2011 and the facility will soon after become available for general use.
