This award provides for Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA) and Quality Improvement (QI) funding for the Head Start program. Head Start promotes the school readiness of low-income children through the provision of comprehensive health, developmental and family Services.
The expected results of the of the COLA funds is that all current staff (467) would have a positive improvement to their salaries or benefits. For the QI projects, all 10 delegate agencies received funds to improve the quality of their program through staff, equipment, supplies and structures such as playgrounds. The QI projects outcomes are too numerous to name, however here are examples: Replacement of classroom computers, funding Literacy Projects, Mentor Teacher Projects, Replacing/Improving Playgrounds, Funding for Educational Improvement for Teachers, etc. The QI projects affected 30 additional children directly through a special 4 week transition to kindergarten and over 2,900 children indirectly. The projects also assisted in retaining 87 qualified staff and adding 17 new staff.
Project successfully completed with $2,497 in funds not expended. A No Cost Extension has been received and the city expended the funds by 9/30/11. |
