Developed a technique to measure the resource utilization of various applications. This technique captures an application-oriented view of resource utilization: the amount of resource required before the application?s performance degrades. We submitted a paper on quantifying memory utilization to the PACT conference and will submit a paper on quantifying network utilization to the Supercomputing conference.
Developed a technique to predict the execution time of applications on one type of input when executing on one computer architecture by using statistical modeling. This is done by quickly computing an adjustment model to the original model based on a few observations of the application's behavior in the new environment.
Developed an alternative approach to correcting the results of computations in the face of soft errors. Our approach requires, a way to localize the portion of the output that is erroneous and a method to recompute just this portion of the result. We have demonstrated the utility and effectiveness of this approach and are now generalizing it to other algorithms. This will be published at the Symposium on Dependable Systems and Networks. We are completing work on a comprehensive strategy for embedding resilience into applications that combines algorithmic checkers, targeted replication, and localized rollback, showing how to solve the challenges of combining these techniques into a single solution.
Developed an initial implementation for a compositional dataflow analysis framework. This framework makes it possible to combine compiler analyses and abstract interpretations implemented by research groups so that the results of each group?s work can be used by all others. This will be done without requiring one analysis? abstractions or interface to be known by the other analyses.
Organizing the Workshop on Algorithmic and Application Error Resilience (AER) at the International Conference on Supercomputing (ICS), to be held in June, 2013. |
