As a part of research on project: Energy Security Audit and Islanding Methodology contract W9132T-10-C-0022 shall provide methodologies to ?island? critical missions from the commercial electric grid for up to six (6) months, and an islanding architecture definition and control scheme strategy to manage the system based on inputs resulting from any change in supply priority or mission of the sites evaluated. It is anticipated that the review and analysis of three (3) installations shall provide an appropriate level of detail to apply to other installations of the same type. The primary location for this project will be in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in the amount of $1,500,000.00. The P2 number is 324147. The OSD number is 0633005A.

Completed and wrapped up project as final. Prepared/submitted Final Report w/ARRA project quad chart for period including efforts through project POP end date of January 9, 2012. Completed development of the Final Report and Final Briefing which summarized the Islanding effort results and highlighted future recommendations. The report includes details of the Site Data Collection and Analysis and Islanding Plan and Strategy efforts as well as all Islanding Methodology Strategy developments. Resubmitted the draft Final Report (no comments received) and draft Journal Quality Paper (no comments received) as final in January 2012. |

The past quarter has supported existing staff assigned to this Islanding project. Project staff supported this project as well as one other Recovery Act funded project that will be reported on separately; therefore, staff time was split between the two contract activities. Staff tasking included completion of a final report. Two core staff members supported this effort up to 20% during the period of this quarter up to the POP end date of January 9, 2012. Associated job titles of the core staff that have been maintained by this project include: Senior Electrical Engineer and Associate Electrical Engineer. The impact of retention of existing staff for the local area is positive, and spans multiple experience levels for the individuals who have been retained. (Note: number of jobs calculation based on remaining period of performance, which ended prior to the quarter's end.) |
