LABOR AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF
The Alaska State Energy Sector Partnership (ASESP) will develop a sustainable strategic workforce plan to increase the supply of workers with energy efficiency skills to support Energy Efficiency End User Technology, Geothermal, Hydroelectric, Wind Turbine and Biomass industries. At least 700 workers will receive training and over 85 percent of participants will be employed in an energy efficiency occupation.Through employment and training services the state will develop professionals and technicians, both incumbent workers and new workers.

FY 13: three project operators continue to provide job training activities around the state.
Alaska?s Institute of Technology (AVTEC) completed wind technician and training for Industrial Electricians as well as training and certifying participants to integrate energy efficient technologies and practices into the Plumbing and Heating program and continues to fine tune curriculum.Alaska?s Apprenticeship Training Coordinator Association (AATCA) coordinates the training of apprentices and journeymen across several trades to include energy efficiency construction trades skills.Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) provided training for incumbent power plant operators to receive training for Power Plant Operator Training, Advanced Power Plant Operator Training, and Hydro Power Plant Operator Training at AVTEC. The grant concluded December 2012.Alaska Works Partnership is training workers for Weatherization Technician I and Commercial Construction Energy Retrofit (CCER) courses throughout Alaska.The Department worked with the University of Alaska Matanuska Susitna campus over a period of several months to establish a Green Technician occupational endorsement. While the University is continuing with this effort, the endorsement will not be ready until after the ASESP period of performance.Competitive awards: Building Energy Retrofit Training (BERT) through the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) which leads to Building Performance Institute (BPI) certification completed training in December 2012. Yukon Inter-Tribal Watershed Council added training in solar photovoltaic solar thermal energy efficiency.The sustainability plan was submitted in January 2013.Upcoming activities include: RAD quarterly reporting, providing technical assistance to grantees to support them in achieving positive outcomes, assessment of employment outcomes, and preparation for final close out and reports. All sub-grants training activity will conclude by May 31, 2012. |
