The award funds services to the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests from the Student Conservation Association's conservation service program, which recruits and places qualified young people for environmental and conservation service projects. SCA Trail Maintenance Teams worked in the Laurel Springs Area in Highland County, enhancing trail safety and durability for improved public access. The George Washington and Jefferson National Forest stretches over the Appalachian Mountains from one end of Virginia to the other. The Student Conservation Association is a non-profit organization with a fifty-year record of recruiting, training and maintaining youth for conservation service labor projects.
