COMPUTER SCIENCES CORPORATION
The goal of this project is to develop an NCCS Data Management System (DMS) that provides a data grid approach to integrated, next-generation Earth science data services for NASA. A data grid is software that allows for the management, sharing, searching, and distribution of large amounts of distributed data sets. The NASA Earth Science community maintains large quantities of both observation data from satellites and Earth based observing platforms (like ocean buoys) as well as model data generated by NASA climate applications. The DMS will provide a framework for the integrated delivery of Earth observational data and climate simulation data from NASA models, thereby broadening the accessibility and usability of currently available data to the climate science community. In particular, new data sets from Goddard Space Flight Center’s contribution to the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will be accessible through the DMS.
