QUINCY, CITY OF
The objective of the Quincy Area Hydropower Project is to develop hydroelectric generation facilities at Unites States Army Corps of Engineers Lock & Dam No. 21 for which the City of Quincy, Ilinois is pursuing a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission development license. The City has filed a motion of intent to file a license development application in July 2010 for the L&D No. 21 on the Mississippi River. Hydroelectric energy is a clean, renewable energy source that will help reduce America's dependence on fossil fuels for energy production. The proposed capacity at the projet is 15 MW. A license from the FERC is necessary to begin construction of the proposed hydroelectric generating facilities and current efforts are oriented towards the development of the license application. Funds from the grant award will be used to fund environmental studies required by the license application.
