Grants - AWARD SUMMARY

SCHEPENS EYE RESEARCH INSTITUTE, INC., THE

The research addresses diabetic retinopathy, the most common complication of diabetes. The research seeks to identify processes that are active early in diabetic retinal vessels, so as to develop the best drug strategy for prevention of the late damage. We are testing the role of a growth factor named TGF-B and propose to add to the studies in diabetic animals studies in a new model based on the cells of human retinal vessels. The model will permit us to understand mechanisms and test inhibitory drugs directly on the ultimate target.
