Grants - AWARD SUMMARY

SU CLINICA FAMILIAR

Su Clinica Familiar will invest CIP funds to address the immediate needs of Willacy County, Texas by undertaking renovation and construction projects at its Raymondville site and making IT equipment purchases that will ensure that all sites are up to the highest attainable standards for the continued implementation and improvement of Health Information Technology and IT capability. Su Clinica Familiar’s Raymondville site is the oldest of the clinic’s four sites in the service area. Originally constructed by the clinic in 1982, the facility is showing the wear and tear of 27 years of service. Most recently in 2009, the clinic site sustained a direct hit from Hurricane Dolly, with substantial damage to the roof and interior. Stop-gap repairs were made but the building requires a major renovation to meet modern facility standards and customer services demands. Currently serving approximately 25% of the county’s population, the renovation and construction projects will: · Increase the amount of clinical sq ft available within the main building by relocating the pharmacy from an interior location to a stand-alone facility adjacent to the current building on the existing property footprint, · Provide convenience and increased accessibility to the customer by adding a pharmacy drive-thru and the ability to provide more flexible hours of operation, · Increase clinical workflows and efficiencies through the redesign of interior spaces and incorporating IT infrastructure needs into the renovation program, · Increase customer satisfaction and potential reimbursement by enhancing the appearance and comfort of the facility, · Enhance patient care outcomes by upgrading clinical equipment where necessary. Having already secured a CCHIT certified EMR system, the MIS Department will make upgrades to IT infrastructure to relieve strains that have been put on the system due to upgrades in the practice management system, a new electronic time and attendance system, a new accounting system, and the addition of a clinic-wide business portal. Equipment purchases will prepare all clinic sites for future enhancements in electronic patient check-in, employee webcasting, and future clinic expansion to meet growing demand. The projects being proposed are one time investments that are expected to yield positive, lasting effects for years to come. Investments in IT software and hardware will position the clinic to take full advantage of the potential benefits of a fully integrated, and sustainable, technology infrastructure. From patient check-in to clinical outcomes reporting, proposed advancements prepare the clinic for upcoming pay for performance initiatives while also harvesting the benefits of a more efficient and effective staff compliment that has the tools necessary to compete in a modern healthcare environment. It is anticipated that, in the long-term, the CIP proposal will have a positive impact on the ongoing operational budget as energy efficiencies and maintenance cost reductions are realized at the Raymondville site. Increased clinical space at the Raymondville site and the addition of a stand-alone pharmacy with a drive thru will lead to the potential for increased revenue as more Medicare, Medicaid, and patients with other private insurance make Su Clinica Familiar their medical home of choice.
