NV ENERGY, INC.
NV Energy's Smart Grid Investment Grant Program, initially called the Advanced Service Delivery Project (ASD) now referred to as the NVEnergize Project, is a large project in the Integrated and Cross-Cutting Systems Topic Area that supports a major dynamic pricing trial, and will build a modern Smart Grid infrastructure delivering millions in benefits to the entire state of Nevada. This statewide project will be implemented from 2010-2013, link 1.4 million electric and gas meters across 54,600 square miles of service territory, and benefit 2.4 million Nevadans. From Nevada's northern mountains to its southern deserts, weather, customer types, and load factors are extremely diverse. ASD meets this challenge with an integrated, reliable, safe and scalable Smart Grid foundation. Creating jobs, streamlining operations, and reducing peak demand, ASD integrates dynamic pricing, customer communications, grid situational awareness, home area networks, demand response, distribution automation, distributed renewables, and electric vehicles. The secure and proven ASD system includes the Advanced Metering Infrastructure, the Meter Data Management System, the Energy Management System, and the Demand Response Management System - including home area networks and programmable controllable thermostats. NV Energy (NVE) will build a Smart Grid foundation as an open model for the utility industry, sharing how customers take ownership of their energy usage. The entire State of Nevada will benefit as a result. The DOE approved additional funding of $1 million above the previously approved $137.8 million for work NV Energy will undertake for Consumer Confidence activities.

NVE is considering the 1Q2013 Recovery Act Report FINAL because 97.7% of the SGIG funding has been invoiced and 97.6% of the funds have been received as of March 31, 2013. The remaining funds of $3.2 million will be invoiced before grant closeout.
1Q2013 activities: NVE began implementation of its Opt-Out Program early February by contacting approximately 14,000 customers on its postponement and removal lists informing them of the Program and offering either a non-standard metering option or smart meter. System Release 9.5 was completed in February enabling the implementation of the Revenue Protection Suite (theft analytics) application and a MDMS hot fix. Sector and Segment Acceptance Testing completed successfully late December 2012. At March 31, 2013, 7,010 homes had enrolled in NVE's mPowered DR Program. The successful installments provide an estimated peak demand reduction of 20.29 MW. Recruitment for the NDPT ended on February 28, 2013. Approximately 5,400 single-family households across northern and southern Nevada have voluntarily enrolled in the NDPT to receive some combination of new dynamic rates, technologies and education in this statistically-controlled test. Web Portal support was completed in March for NDPT Promotions and Rates. The NDPT started March 2013 and ends March 2015. 13,087 meters deployed this quarter in NVE's southern service territory; totaling 867,500 smart meters installed at March 31, 2013. 40,484 meters were deployed in NVE's northern service territory; totaling 310,234 smart meters installed at March 31, 2013. One TGB was commissioned this quarter in NVE's southern service territory; totaling 72 TGBs commissioned at March 31, 2013; all sites within this project scope have been commissioned in southern Nevada. Nine TGBs were commissioned in NVE's northern service territory; totaling 46 TGBs at March 31, 2013; 8 additional sites are in various stages of construction and will be commissioned in the next couple of months. |
