To ensure full transparency, Recovery.gov pulls data on federal contract, grant, and loan awards from:
- Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS.gov) – collects all the information on federal contracts awarded by federal agencies. Updated bi-weekly.
- USASpending.gov – collects all the information on federal grants and loans awarded by federal agencies. Updated bi-weekly.
Unemployment data – Bureau of Labor Statistics.
How are the Dots Placed?
Each dot is based on the information provided by the agency.
- If the address of the recipient has been included by the agency, the dot is placed at that address.
- If there is no address, but a zip code, the dot is placed in the center of the zip code
- If only a state has been indicated, the dot is placed at the state’s capital.
Multiple Dots in a Location
There may be more than one recipient at a location. To see all recipients, click on View all Recipients in the black popup box.
If multiple awards are geocoded to the same address (multiple companies in one building) or location (dots may be placed in the center of the zip code if only the zip code was provided, the dots are stacked on top of each other in the following order: Loans at the bottom, Grants in the middle, and Contracts on top. When you click on a green (contract) dot, a grant or loan may also show up in the pop up box.
Unemployment Data – Compare the geographic areas with the highest unemployment rates with the Recovery Act awards in the area.
