TRANSIT AUTHORITY OF RIVER CITY
Invest in public transportation by purchasing new hybrid-electric buses, constructing and equipping a new Maintenance and Training facility, re-roofing a bus storage facility and constructing an emergency generation facility at TARC's Union Station Division, renovating a bus storage facility at TARC's Broadway Division, performing preventive maintenance on existing buses, and providing service.

Through the first two quarters during which TARC drew down funds (the third and fourth quarters of Federal FY 2009), this grant funded preventive maintenance of TARC's bus fleet. As a result of these funds, TARC was able to retain 36 mechanics it might otherwise have had to lay off. In addition, TARC contractors employed 2 apprentices, 3 bricklayers, 18 carpenters, 2 concrete finishers, 6 electricians, 4 equipment operators, 4 iron workers, over 20 laborers, 16 painters, 6 plumbers and pipe fitters, 13 roofers, 4 sheet metal workers, and 3 truck drivers who might otherwise not have had work. |
